Vision Zero Brantford

Vision Zero is a global initiative with the simple and clear goal of zero fatalities or serious injuries on city roadways.

Vision Zero Road Safety was founded in Sweden in 1997 and is a global initiative that stresses no loss of life is acceptable, road safety is a shared responsibility and working together will contribute to a safe road network.

In 2017, there were 1,760 collisions on municipal roads, 41 of which involved bikes and 45 involved pedestrians. Of those collisions, 297 resulted in injuries and two deaths.

Locally, by adopting the initiative, The City of Brantford aims to make Brantford streets safer through improved education, enforcement, engineering, evaluation and engagement.

The City is committed to Vision Zero Brantford and accepts its fundamental message: fatalities and serious injuries on our roads are preventable, and we must strive to reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries to ZERO.

Having a strategic plan to guide the City’s efforts in achieving the goals of Vision Zero is key to ensuring the measures being undertaken are clearly laid out, and that the City is consistently tracking its progress towards the initiative. The Vision Zero: City of Brantford’s Road Safety Plan is a five year plan outlining the various projects the City of Brantford along with community partners has committed to delivering to achieve the Vision Zero goals, and identifies the ways in which the City’s progress towards Vision Zero will be evaluated. 

At the heart of the City's efforts to evolve this plan is our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of residents. Implementing tools at our disposal to improve safety and communicating the rules of our roads and trails is an important step in preventing accidents and injuries.
