Preauthorized Payments

The City of Brantford has three tax pre-authorized payment plans available. If you'd like to make any changes to your current plan or cancel payments, please the Tax Office a completed Change / Cancellation of Pre-Authorized Payments form a minimum five business days prior to the next scheduled payment.

Due-date plan

With the due-date plan, we will deduct four instalments from your bank account based on the four due-dates on your tax bills. These payments are processed only for the Interim Tax Bill due dates and the Final Tax Bill due dates.

Monthly plan

The 12-month payment plan is for properties with taxes paid up to the current date. You can choose to pay on either the 1st or the 15th of each month. The plan begins in December before the taxation year and ends in November of the taxation year. Supplementary and/or omitted property tax bills are not included in your Pre-Authorized Payment schedule and have to be paid with a different payment option.

Self-directed plan

The self-directed plan is an option for properties that have overdue payments or if you'd like to set an amount that you'd like to deduct monthly.

We process the payment on the last banking day of each month. Any penalties and interest will continue to apply on any overdue tax payments, until you pay them in full.

MONTHLY PAP PLAN (FOR ACCOUNTS NOT IN ARREARS)
  • The 12 monthly payments for a taxation year begin in December of the prior year, and ends in November of the taxation year. The first seven payments are based on 1/12th of your total prior-year taxes. When the Final tax bill is prepared in June, the taxpayer will be notified of the revised monthly payment required to pay the balance of the annual taxes by November of the taxation year, as well as the monthly amount to be deducted beginning in December.
  • To join at any other time, you must pay your taxes up to the point-in-time of enrolment, so that you have paid the equivalent amount as if having been enrolled as of the prior December. Call for details.
  • Enrolment is not available if taxes are in arrears. (Use the “Self-Directed” plan application if you have outstanding taxes.)
  • Enrolment is voluntary and may be cancelled at the Taxpayers' request, upon written notice at least five (5) business days prior to the next scheduled withdrawal. Withdrawals made without the required cancellation notice will not be refunded.
  • Notice of changes in bank account to be debited must be supplied by written notice at least five (5) business days prior to the next scheduled withdrawal.
  • Forms for cancellation or change of information are available at the tax office, or on the City website. Payor may obtain a sample cancellation form, or further information on their right to cancel a PAD Agreement, at their financial institution or by visiting www.cdnpay.ca.
  • Dishonoured payments (NSF, etc.) will be subject to penalty, interest and service charges as applicable. Payee will double up the next payment and add the service charge to bring the tax account current.
  • If there are two consecutive, or three dishonoured payments in a 12-month period, Payor will be removed from the PAP plan fora period of one year from the last dishonoured payment.
  • If you receive a Supplementary or Omitted tax bill for new or additional tax charges, these billings will not be added to your monthly payment, but must be paid separately on their indicated due-dates.
DUE-DATE or SELF-DIRECTED PRE-AUTHORIZED PAYMENTS PAP PLAN
  •  Enrolment is voluntary, and may be cancelled at the Taxpayers' request, upon written notice at least five (5) business days prior to the next scheduled withdrawal. Withdrawals made without the required cancellation notice will not be refunded.
  • Notice of changes in bank account to be debited must be supplied by written notice at least five (5) business days prior to the next scheduled withdrawal.
  • Forms for cancellation or change of information are available at the tax office, or on the City website. Payor may obtain a sample cancellation form, or further information on their right to cancel a PAD Agreement, at their financial institution or by visiting www.cdnpay.ca.
  • Dishonored payments (NSF, etc.) will be subject to penalty, interest and service charges. Due-Date payments that are returned must be replaced within 10 business days.
  • If there are two consecutive, or three dishonoured payments in a 12-month period, Payor will be removed from the PAP plan for a period of one year from the last dishonoured payment.
  • If you receive a Supplementary or Omitted tax bill for new or additional tax charges, these billings are not debited automatically, and must be paid separately on their indicated due-dates.
