Installation process
Authorized KTI Utility Services technicians will be in uniform and carry a City-issued photo ID badge. KTI technicians will not ask for any form of payment from customers.
When they arrive at your property, the KTI technician will examine your current water meter and the installation site. The City determined which water meters, or wires, or both, must be replaced. The decision is based on age, condition and water meter technology. Not all properties will have their water meter, or wires, or both replaced.
KTI technicians will install a radio transmitter that allows for remote meter reading. The radio will typically be installed in the same location as the existing touchpad, on the outside of the building.
Water meters are generally located in the basement, crawl space, mechanical room, or where the water service enters your property. The water meter may be completely replaced during your appointment or retrofitted with a radio transmitter. A wire will extend from the meter through the exterior wall and connect to the radio transmitter. A typical meter upgrade takes between 30 and 90 minutes. Your water may be briefly shut off during your meter upgrade. When the work is done, the KTI technician will turn the water back on. KTI technicians will take photos to document the work completed.
Please ensure the area around the existing water meter is clear and accessible, providing enough room for the KTI technician to work. Every effort will be made to minimize the impact on your home or business.
