Ontario Works Cheque Pick-up During Canada Post Disruption 

As part of our commitment to the continued delivery of excellent services to citizens, the City of Brantford has the following plan in place for Ontario Works cheques as a result of the ongoing Canada Post labour dispute.

Direct bank deposits are not affected for residents who are receiving Ontario Works financial assistance.

Client and Trustee cheques will be held for pick up at the Ontario Works office at 220 Colborne St., Brantford between 8:30 to 4:30 Monday to Friday.

Valid photo ID will be required to pick up cheques.

Contact your Ontario Works Service Coordinator at 519-759-3330 to arrange for pick up if someone else will be picking up the cheque for you and to confirm that a cheque has been processed before coming to the office.

All landlords and vendor cheques will be mailed unless there is a full Canada Post labour disruption or you have already arranged to pick up a cheque. Alternatively, landlords or vendors expecting payments from Ontario Works are able to sign up for third party Direct Bank Deposits by accessing a secure online form.

Access to drug and dental providers will not be affected. Clients can use their Ontario health cards to access doctors and obtain prescriptions. Dental providers have been notified to accept the previous month's dental cards. DBD stubs/Statements of Assistance will not be required to access drug or dental related services during the rotating Canada Post labour disruptions.

DBD Stubs/Statements of Assistance will be mailed. If you require this document prior to receiving it in the mail, please contact your service coordinator to make arrangements to pick-up it up.

To avoid any payment delays or change in service as a result of a postal disruption, Ontario Works clients are encouraged to register for Direct Bank Deposit by contacting their OW Service Coordinator.

Clients are advised not to put any documents in the mail until an announcement that a Canada Post labour disruption is over. All required paperwork should be dropped off in person at 220 Colborne Street during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the exception of statutory holidays. Alternatively, there is a drop box outside the main doors for documents, or documents can be faxed to 519-759-1750.
