Neighbourhood Associations

Neighbourhood Associations (NA's) are volunteer committees that work in cooperation with the City of Brantford to improve the quality of life in their community. Each NA organizes and promotes recreation and leisure to area residents.

There are currently 24 active NA's in the city offering a variety of activities:

Neighbourhood Home Property Safety Audit

Crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility. With coordinated action, we can improve the safety of our communities. Brantford Police Services and the Neighbourhood Alliance of Brantford (NAB), in partnership with the City of Brantford, are pleased to launch a new Neighbourhood Home Property Safety Audit to help improve the safety and security of your home.

The Neighbourhood Home Property Safety Audit is a self-assessment tool designed for residents to help identify proactive ways to reduce the risk of burglary and improve security. You can view the Safety Audit and download and print a copy by visiting, www.BrantfordPolice.ca/SafetyAudit.

Slow Down Sign program

The City of Brantford, in partnership with the Neighbourhood Alliance of Brantford, is pleased to provide free ‘Slow Down’ lawn signs to residents, while supplies last. The signs are intended to enhance roadway safety by reminding motorists to drive slower through residential neighbourhoods.

Signs are only available to Brantford residents with a limit of one per household, while supplies last. Residents are kindly asked to bring photo identification with them that includes their Brantford address when they pick up their sign. Slow Down signs are not enforceable by the Brantford Police; however, enforcement of the legal posted speed limit is.

Residents can pick up a free ‘Slow Down’ lawn sign at the following locations:

  • Brantford City Hall - Customer Service Counter (58 Dalhousie St.) Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre – Customer Service Information Desk (254 North Park Street) Monday to Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The ‘Slow Down” signs can be put up year-round, however, it is suggested that they be posted until November and stored indoors during the winter months to maximize visibility and reduce wear and tear of the sign so that it can be reused.

Residents are asked to place the sign in front of their own household and personal property only (not the boulevard), approximately two feet from the curb, between the curb and the property line, using only the supplied wire frame. Please do not add reflective tape or illumination to the sign. All signs should be placed at least three metres away from fire hydrants and cannot obstruct any pedestrian, cyclist or driver sight lines.

Leaf and snow removal program

The Neighbourhood Alliance of Brantford has partnered with the City of Brantford to provide neighbours in need of help raking leaves and/or shovelling snow with neighbouring volunteers. If you, or someone you know, is a senior (65 or older) or has a medical condition or disability and needs help, or you are someone willing to volunteer your time or in need of community service hours, you can send your Neighbourhood Association a message through their Facebook page using the links provided below, email neighbourhoodassociations@brantford.ca.

Neighbourhood Associations

Neighbourhood Association members play a very big role in the success of a healthy and vibrant community. It is as simple as becoming a member or volunteering to help with programs and special events. You can also ask about becoming a member of your NA's executive committee. It will give you a chance to get to know your neighbours and have your voice heard. Call us at 519-759-4150, ext. 5537 for more information on how to volunteer for a Neighbourhood Association on email us at neighbourhoodassociations@brantford.ca.

If your area does not have an active Neighbourhood Association and you would like to learn more, call us or email us. You can apply and fill out our application form.
